Australia Awards Scholarships

Australia Awards Scholarships are long-term awards administered by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

They aim to contribute to the development needs of Australia's partner countries in line with bilateral and regional agreements.

Papua New Guinea is included in the list of countries that are eligible for Australia Awards Scholarships.

Applicants are assessed on their professional and personal qualities, academic competence and, most importantly, their potential to impact on development challenges in Papua New Guinea.

English Language requirements

As part of the eligibility requirements for English proficiency, applicants must have achieved an Academic IELTS overall score of 6.5 or higher (with no band less than 6.0) or equivalent.

Pacific Engagement visa (subclass 192)

What is the Pacific Engagement visa?

The Pacific Engagement (subclass 192) visa, also known as the PEV, is a new Australian permanent residence visa available for eligible citizens of participating Pacific countries and Timor-Leste.

This visa is part of Australia’s permanent migration program and is aimed at increasing Pacific and Timor-Leste communities in Australia to strengthen our ongoing connections.

To apply for the Pacific Engagement visa (subclass 192), you must:

  • First register for the PEV ballot.

  • If you are randomly selected in the ballot, you can then proceed with your visa application.

Please note that to register for the PEV ballot and to apply for the visa, you must not be a citizen of New Zealand.

Papua New Guinea is included in the list of eligible countries for both the ballot and the visa application.

PALM Scheme

What is the PALM Scheme?

The Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme allows eligible Australian businesses to hire workers from 9 Pacific islands and Timor-Leste when there are not enough local workers available.

Papua New Guinea is included in the list of eligible countries.
