How do I book my IELTS test?

Locate your closest New Zealand IELTS Test Centre here.
Once you find an IELTS Test Centre and a test date that suits you, follow the steps to book your test.

You must have a clear and legible scanned copy of your current valid passport to upload when applying. The copy you upload must be of the page(s) with your photo, name, date of birth, passport number, and expiry date.

If you have any difficulty booking your test, please contact our team at the IELTS Australasia Contact Centre who can assist with completing your booking.

There are a few ways to pay for your IELTS test. Every test centre will have different payment options available. Generally, you will be able to use the following payment methods available:

Where do I find the IELTS test location?

The IELTS test centre is situated at the Centre for Assessment and Monitoring (CAM), University of Canterbury, Dovedale Ave Campus, Waimairi, Christchurch (not the Ilam campus).

To the right of the IELTS test centre is a waiting room with an adjoining bathroom that can be used by test takers who arrive early for their test.
Situated behind the test centre is a café open between 8am and 3pm, Monday to Friday.

Can I get a soft or electronic copy of my IELTS results?

IELTS provides you with an official, secure, digital and paper Test Report Form (TRF).eTRFs are available for customers who sit the IELTS on computer test. The eTRF will be available in your booking profile as a downloadable PDF file.

Need your results for a New Zealand visa? If you apply for a visa online, you can find your Test Report Form (TRF) number when you access your results online.

What if I am under 18 years?

Under 18 test takers must complete the ‘Consent Form for Minors’ using an online form via the IDP profile account. They must bring the original completed form on test day or they may not be allowed to take the test.

I have a special requirement. How can you help?

Accepted Answer

In order to ensure that the language ability of all test-takers is assessed fairly and objectively, IELTS provides a comprehensive service for test-takers who have special requirements, including specific learning difficulties, hearing difficulties and visual difficulties, medical conditions or infant feeding.

If you require a modified version of IELTS, you must give your test centre at least six weeks’ notice.
If your circumstances require special arrangements to be made, e.g. extra time, you must also give the test centre six weeks’ notice.

Do I need to submit passport photographs when booking an IELTS test?

Accepted Answer

You don’t need to submit passport photographs when booking an IELTS test online. You are required to attach a scanned copy of your current valid passport only.

What happens when you apply for special consideration?

First, have a look at here for more information on what we offer test takers that require additional help during the test.

If you think you require special consideration, please get in touch with your test centre.

The test centre may ask you for a medical certificate from a specialist - a letter from a medical doctor that outlines why you require special arrangements, and what those arrangements should be. Sometimes there is a requirement that this document is recent (ie. that is no more than 2 years old). It should also be written in English.

Upon receiving your documentation, the test centre will investigate what accommodations IELTS can offer. Sometimes, we have to seek support from Cambridge University Press & Assessment in the UK, one of the co-owners of IELTS.

When we have made a decision, we will let you know what arrangements we can offer.

The test centre will also let you know when you can book your test.

Please note: in some cases, special requirements may take up to 3 months to organise.

Question 14

I can only see Listening, Reading and Writing tests in the booking website, is the Speaking Test not included in the test fee?

Yes. The Speaking Test is included in the test fee, however, the time slot for the Speaking test is booked separately. Please contact our Customer Support Team or the test centre where you wish to sit the test about their speaking test booking procedure.
