How do I book my IELTS test?

Locate your closest New Zealand IELTS Test Centre here.
Once you find an IELTS Test Centre and a test date that suits you, follow the steps to book your test.

You must have a clear and legible scanned copy of your current valid passport to upload when applying. The copy you upload must be of the page(s) with your photo, name, date of birth, passport number, and expiry date.

How can I pay for the test?

There are a few ways to pay for your IELTS test. Every test centre will have different payment options available. Generally, you will be able to use the following payment methods available:

Payment must be made within 48 hours of registering online.

Can I pay the fees by instalment?

No. The test fee must be paid in full at the time of booking.

If I do not have an existing IELTS account, then how do I book a new test?

Do I need to submit passport photographs when booking an IELTS test?

You don’t need to submit passport photographs when booking an IELTS test online. You are required to attach a scanned copy of your current valid passport only.

I have a special requirement. How can you help?

In order to ensure that the language ability of all test-takers is assessed fairly and objectively, IELTS provides a comprehensive service for test-takers who have special requirements, including specific learning difficulties, hearing difficulties and visual difficulties, medical conditions or infant feeding.

If you require a modified version of IELTS, you must give your test centre at least six weeks’ notice.
If your circumstances require special arrangements to be made, e.g. extra time, you must also give the test centre six weeks’ notice.

What happens when you apply for special consideration?

If you think you require special consideration, please get in touch with your test centre.

The test centre may ask you for a medical certificate from a specialist - a letter from a medical doctor that outlines why you require special arrangements, and what those arrangements should be. Sometimes there is a requirement that this document is recent (ie. that is no more than 2 years old). It should also be written in English.

Upon receiving your documentation, the test centre will investigate what accommodations IELTS can offer. Sometimes, we have to seek support from Cambridge University Press & Assessment in the UK, one of the co-owners of IELTS.

When we have made a decision, we will let you know what arrangements we can offer.

The test centre will also let you know when you can book your test.

Please note: in some cases, special requirements may take up to 3 months to organise.

Question 9

I can only see Listening, Reading and Writing tests in the booking website, is the Speaking Test not included in the test fee?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The Speaking Test is included in the test fee, however, the time slot for the Speaking test is booked separately. Please contact our Customer Support Team or the test centre where you wish to sit the test about their speaking test booking procedure.
